Saturday scenery: Western Addition peace park

After this week that saw the police killings of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota capped by the sniper shootings of five Dallas cops working a peaceful anti-police violence procession, here's how one San Francisco neighborhood responded to local violence in the last decade.

Community residents got grants to design tiles in memory of children lost to violence in this gentrifying enclave next to some of the city's least picturesque public housing.

Some of the resulting "art" seems trite.

But some tiles are challenging ...

... some topical ...

... some childish in the best sense.

Girls Scouts from the Chinese-American school contributed.

Several hundred feet of retaining wall carry the tiles.

There's nothing easy about peace.

All encountered while Walking San Francisco.
